I DID IT! MY FIRST 5K!!! (on treadmill)
Posted by Cheeseball under: Run.
YES YES YES!!! I DID IT!!! I was determined to run 3.1 miles today. It was my very first time running that far! I’d always, and I mean all my life, despised running, but I conquered my first 5k today and it actually wasn’t so bad! With the assistance of my ipod, I was able to go all the way to my first goal in a relatively short time! It’s only been a month since I started running, and I hadn’t even spent my time in running all that much during that time since I had my swimming, cycling and yoga. It wasn’t on the streets outside, but still I am very proud of my first treadmill accomplishment.
I tried to go under 10min/mile, and I actually did it! With the warm up and cool down jogging, I actually ran 3.6 miles in total. For my last .3 miles, I sped up to almost 9min/mile, so I could recoup the slow time for my first half.
At the beginning, both of my knees were stiff and bothering me a bit, but that went away in about 5 minutes. I had a slight side pain while I was running, but it wasn’t anything major and I could keep on going. That reminds me to share this with anyone who’s reading this post - according to the August issue of Triathlete magazine I was reading, one of the reasons why we feel the side stitch pain while running is because of the weak core strength, which causes diaphragm spasm. There are other causes too, but the common causes are muscle-related, and that it can be fixed by “increasing core strength through exercises such as planks and crunches, especially with rotation.” Now, I guess that’s what I’ll have to do so I won’t get the pain as much.
Oh, and also during the day, I went to the beach and played around in the waves. No boarding today, but just jumped and floated around like a piece of kelp

I figured you weren’t slacking… I still had to call you out on it. Pretty rad, you ran for the distance! You’re gonna be ready for a 5k event sooner than I know it. I better get my butt in gear. Great job!!

Thanx! I’m sure it’ll be harder to go for the same distance out on the street, but at least mentally I can keep telling myself that I’ve done it and I can do it. “Yes, we can!” lol

Great Job! Always good to see that fist 5K. My first 5K was on the treadmill too. Since then I have raced 3 5Ks and getting ready for two more in August!
